With sharpened pencils (yep, pencils!) mathletes in Minnesota’s Arrowhead region launched the 2022 MATHCOUNTS Competition Season. Statewide, teams from more than 100 schools are competing in the first in-person Chapter events in two years.
Coaches and kids told us how happy they were to be competing in person. And none complained about masks or social distancing. Hermantown Coach Becca said it this way: “Thanks so much for putting on the in-person competition today!! It was so great to be back in person again!”
Teams from Proctor, Barnum High School, Cloquet Middle School, Moose Lake School, RJ Elkington Middle School, Hibbing High School, Esko High School and Hermantown Middle School competed.
Moose Lake and RJ Elkington teams will advance to the March 11-12 state competition.
The Moose Lake Team members are: Matthew Bohnsack, Parker Samarzia, Silvia Scherer and James Skalko-Olesiak. Three cheers for the team and their coach, Matt Niedzielski.
RJ Elkington team members are: Skylar Barker, Carter Casey, Gabe Hoffman, and Sam Hoffman. Hats off to Coach Gretchen Hyink.
And a second round of cheers for Matthew Bonsack, Moose Lake, and Carter Casey at RJ Elkington who qualified for both individual and team competitions at state.
